Which HeatShield Models This Applies To

HeatShield’s crown repair spec covers both their Cerfractory and Refractory Flue Sealant systems, so if you have a HeatShield liner that was installed any time in the last 20 years, the crown repair procedure is compatible. What matters more than the liner model is the crown substrate. If the original cement crown is cracked but still mostly intact, HeatShield joint sealant applied into the cracks, then a crown coat over the surface, is the fix. If the crown has turned to loose gravel, the old crown gets rebuilt with cement and then sealed. One gotcha we see in Quincy all the time: an installer applied HeatShield flue sealant on a crown that was damp from a recent rain. It will not bond.
