A Top company - serving Quincy, MA

Meet the Team - Top Hat Chimney

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Meet the Quincy Team Behind Top Hat Chimney

Top Hat Chimney has worked Quincy’s chimneys since 1999, and the people who show up at your door are the reason the phone keeps ringing. No subcontractors. No rotating cast of day laborers. The crew that cleans your flue in Wollaston is the same crew your neighbor in Merrymount recommended. They’re background-checked, uniformed, and local enough to run into you at the Saturday farmers market. Here’s who you’ll meet when you book with us.

Our People

Wendell Pike, Owner

Wendell founded Top Hat Chimney in 1999, and he still answers the phone on a regular basis. Twenty-nine years in, he has swept more than 8,000 flues across the South Shore and lost count of the masonry repairs somewhere around 2006. He holds a CSIA certification and stays current on Massachusetts building code requirements for wood-burning appliances. Wendell is the one who stamps every job with the 90-Day Done Right Promise, and he means it literally: if something isn’t right, one call brings him back. He lives in Quincy and will absolutely ask how your kids are doing.

Miguel R., Lead Technician

Miguel has been with Top Hat for fourteen years and handles the tougher structural work: chimney rebuilds, liner installs, and crown repairs that require more than a tuckpoint. He is certified through DuraFlex for stainless steel liner systems and through HeatShield for ceramic coating applications. Miguel is the one who catches things other people miss, like the hairline crack in a flue tile that would have meant a chimney fire in a year. Outside of work, he coaches his daughter’s youth soccer team in Braintree and is particular about his coffee, which the rest of the crew gives him grief about.

Colleen D., Service Coordinator

Colleen has been the voice on the other end of the line for eight years and knows the Quincy service area block by block. She’s the one who schedules your appointment, gives you the straight answer on pricing before anyone shows up, and calls you if the truck gets stuck behind a St. Patrick’s Day parade detour. Colleen handles the books, the scheduling, and the occasional teardown of someone calling about a “chimney cleaning coupon” that no one on the crew has ever heard of. She lives in Quincy Center and keeps a running list of every house on her street whose chimney she can see from her kitchen window.

Bobby T., Apprentice

Bobby joined the crew two years ago after working residential construction in Weymouth. He’s learning the trade from the ground up: everything from carrying brush rods up a ladder to mixing mortar to the correct consistency for a crown repair. Wendell has him on a structured path toward his CSIA certification, and he’s already passed his background check and uniform standards the same as everyone else. Bobby is the one who will be on your roof with a second pair of eyes on steep pitches in the winter. He restores vintage bicycles in his spare time and is responsible for the crew’s ongoing argument about which bike brand is best.

One Standard, Every Job

Every person on this page answers to the same promise that has kept Top Hat Chimney in business since 1999: the 90-Day Done Right Promise on every single job, in writing. Wendell and his crew arrive with upfront pricing that does not change once a tool comes off the truck. Every sweep gets the same camera inspection and plain-English verdict, no exceptions. If a technician recommends a liner or a rebuild, you’ll see the footage yourself before you spend a dollar. That standard is why people in Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth, and across Norfolk County call us back year after year and why your neighbors keep passing our number along. Call (781) 277-4630 and you’ll speak to a real person, probably Colleen, maybe Wendell himself if he’s not on a ladder.
